Family Planning – An Investment in the Future

Today, the topic of family planning in Kazakhstan is gaining particular importance. In 2023, the fertility rate was about three children per woman, which is above the replacement level. However, recent trends show the opposite dynamic: in 2024 the number of newborns fell to 365,000, and in the first quarter of 2025 it decreased by another 15 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

These figures highlight that family planning is not about limiting births, but about ensuring quality. It means that children are born healthy, into families that want them, and with access to full care, education, and medical support.

Kazakhstani women are generally well informed about modern methods of contraception, and many put them into practice. Nevertheless, cases of unplanned pregnancies indicate the need to strengthen prevention measures, expand access to information, and improve medical services.

Family planning is also a tool for managing demographic pressures. A responsible approach by parents enables the state to better forecast the demand for schools, healthcare facilities, and infrastructure. This contributes to more sustainable economic and social development.

The key task of the National Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is to strengthen the values of responsible parenthood, raise youth awareness, and foster a culture of conscious choice. In the near future, it is necessary to intensify educational and information campaigns, uniting the efforts of healthcare institutions, schools, civil society organizations, and the media.
