Training Seminar on Promoting Quality Physical Education in Kazakhstan Held in Almaty
On November 1, 2024, a training seminar titled “Promoting the Policy of Quality Physical Education in Kazakhstan: Comprehensive Improvement of Physical Education Standards” took place at the UN Representation in Kazakhstan in Almaty. The event was organized by UNESCO’s Regional Office in Almaty and the National Scientific and Practical Center of Physical Culture under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with support from the National Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO.
The seminar brought together physical education teachers, experts from the education, healthcare, tourism, and sports sectors, as well as media representatives. Participants discussed the achievements of the “Quality Physical Education in Kazakhstan” project, which was launched in 2023 as part of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan and UNESCO. The project aims to promote the principles of Quality Physical Education (QPE) and foster physical culture among young people, an important step toward strengthening the nation’s health.
The seminar showcased research findings and strategies developed under the initiative, including the analytical report “Analysis in the Sphere of Quality Physical Education in Kazakhstan” and the document “Policy of Quality Physical Education in Kazakhstan.” Additionally, the outcomes of discussions with over 500 physical education specialists in five major cities across the country were presented, addressing the opportunities and challenges in advancing physical education.
Special attention was given to an inclusive approach to physical education and the implementation of gender equality principles. Elena Tarasenko, Deputy Chair of the National Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, served as the event moderator. She emphasized the importance of raising professional standards for physical education teachers and integrating inclusive teaching methods to create equal opportunities for all youth.
The seminar continued with presentations from experts and representatives of sports federations, who shared their experiences in the field of physical education development. Additional sessions were held with students studying physical education and UNESCO club members, where discussions focused on engaging young people in sports and fostering a culture of health.
