Preserving reproductive health is an integral part of demographic policy, contributing to increased birth rates and population growth. This was announced by Gulnara Amirova, Secretary of the Commission for Women and Family and Demographic Policy under the Akim of Almaty, at a briefing by the Regional Communications Service.
From June 24 to 28, 2024, Reproductive Health Week will be held nationwide, organized under the auspices of the National Commission for Women and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The aim of the event is to raise public awareness about the importance of reproductive health and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The speaker noted that the objectives for creating conditions to protect the reproductive health of men and women are outlined in the Concept for the Development of Family and Gender Policy in the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2030.
Reproductive Health Week aims to address issues such as low awareness among adolescents about the importance of reproductive health, methods of preventing unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the rising prevalence of HIV and STIs, and the need for the prevention of human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer.
Gulnar Umarova, a member of the National Commission for Women and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, also participated in the briefing. She emphasized the significance of Reproductive Health Week, stating that this event helps disseminate information about reproductive health and enhances understanding of the importance of the topic.
"The increase in early pregnancies among young people and other emerging issues are among the reasons we are conducting this event at a high level. These important issues cannot be ignored. Therefore, Aida Balayeva, Chairwoman of the National Commission for Women and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, pays special attention to conducting this week at a high level. We must focus on raising awareness about this issue, identifying problems, and finding possible solutions. Special attention should be given to the health of girls and boys, and the roles of motherhood and fatherhood. The main theme of this week is the problems in education and healthcare, existing barriers, and ways to solve them, which we will present to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education in the form of proposals. Overall, I hope that society will also provide feedback, highlight existing problems in reproductive health, and offer their solutions," she shared.
During the week, various informational and educational events, open days at health centers, free medical examinations, and consultations for adolescents will be organized.
Government agencies, international organizations, NGOs, and media personalities will actively participate in the campaign. The primary target audience includes youth and adolescents, men and women of reproductive age, as well as healthcare and education professionals.
Reproductive Health Week is a unique opportunity to obtain reliable information about reproductive health, ask questions to qualified specialists, undergo examinations, and take a step towards a healthy future.
This week will focus on different themes each day:
- The first day will address general issues of reproductive health.
- The second day will focus on reproductive health (with an emphasis on adolescents and youth).
- The third day is dedicated to family planning.
- The fourth day will focus on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections.
- The fifth day will focus on vaccination (prevention and vaccination issues).
"I wish everyone good luck and a productive week during this important campaign, which is essential for improving public health today," said Gulnara Amirova.
