In early September, representatives of the National Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhuldyzai Iskakova and Elena Li, paid a working visit to the Alatau district and the city of Konaev. The main purpose of the trip was to assess the work of family support centers, study their activities, and discuss ways to strengthen family values.
The first stop of the program was the Youth Health Center “Energy of Life” at the city multiprofile hospital of Konaev. The Commission representatives were introduced to the center’s key areas of activity: prevention, youth education, and awareness-raising programs.
A roundtable was held with the participation of local executive bodies, the Almaty Region Healthcare Department, the hospital administration, and center staff. The discussions focused on interagency cooperation, funding, improvement of the regulatory framework, and enhancing the quality of services provided. Specialists of the center also showcased modern equipment and the FSM Social platform used in working with youth.
The next site of inspection was the Family Support Center, which has been operating since August 2023. Its staff includes 14 specialists—psychologists, social workers, a lawyer, HR officer, accountant, and others.
Over the past two years, the center has served 686 people: 570 received information support, 46 psychological assistance, and 524 social and legal support. A total of 114 events were held, with 32 people participating in trainings and educational courses. The center actively uses mobile groups and cooperates with other organizations, including a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
The work of the centers is systematic and aimed at promoting family values and supporting citizens. During the visit, certain issues were identified: the premises are rented and require renovation, the material and technical base needs expansion, and psychological support services should be strengthened. Proposals for improving the center’s work have already been submitted to local executive bodies.
The visit of Zhuldyzai Iskakova and Elena Li contributed to experience sharing, discussion of challenges, and the search for solutions. It is clear that family support centers in Almaty Region play an important role in strengthening the institution of the family and improving the quality of life of citizens.
