Kazakhstan has launched a new phase of the large-scale social project — the “Salamatty Kazakhstan” medical train. Over a six-month period, the train will travel more than 21,000 kilometers, make 123 scheduled stops, and provide free medical, legal, and mediation services to over 90,000 rural residents.
The project is being implemented with the support of the National Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Samruk-Kazyna Trust Foundation.
The train is staffed with more than 30 specialists, including general practitioners, pediatricians, cardiologists, gynecologists, neurologists, dentists, surgeons, ophthalmologists, urologists, and psychologists. Diagnostic services available onboard include fluorography, ECG, ultrasound, gastroscopy, blood analysis, and more. If necessary, doctors can perform minor surgical procedures. All services are provided regardless of the patient's insurance status.
This year, special emphasis is placed on legal and mediation support. Onboard lawyers and mediators consult citizens on labor disputes, government benefits, family law, and court proceedings. This component is organized with the involvement of the National Commission to ensure equal access to legal protection for women and families.
The project has been running since 2010. To date, over 800,000 Kazakhstanis have received assistance, with one in five being a child. In 2023 alone, the medical train’s doctors served more than 104,000 people.
The medical train has become a long-anticipated event for rural residents. For many families, it is the only opportunity to undergo a comprehensive medical check-up without having to leave their village. Communities located dozens or even hundreds of kilometers from the nearest clinic wait each year for the arrival of the train, which guarantees access to qualified healthcare and expert consultations for the whole family.
