Dear Parents,
On January 19, a tragic event occurred in Astana that shocked us all. As a result of a conflict, reportedly triggered by a remark regarding the excessive use of online games, one person was killed, and three others were injured at the hands of a close relative. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and all those affected by this tragedy.
This case highlights the critical importance of paying attention to the interests and hobbies of our children. Today, digital technologies are an integral part of our lives. Young people, particularly teenagers, are spending more and more time in the virtual world. According to the "Kazakhstan Kids Online" study, over 15% of children in Kazakhstan encounter negative content online daily. Dependence on video games, social media, and online communication is growing, often leading to social isolation and causing misunderstandings and conflicts within families.
Dear Parents,
The National Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan calls on you to show greater care and attention to your children, their interests, and their concerns. Active participation in your children's lives, a genuine interest in their hobbies, and open, trusting conversations are fundamental to their harmonious development and an effective way to prevent potential tragedies.
We also strongly recommend parents utilize available "parental control" tools to monitor the content their children consume and the time they spend online. These tools can help protect children from excessive gadget use, harmful games, and minimize risks associated with cyber threats. Ensuring cybersecurity has become an essential part of family well-being.
The demands of modern life often leave little time for meaningful communication with children. However, no task or responsibility can be more important than the life and health of your children. Foster an atmosphere of trust within your family, prioritize their safety, and, most importantly, BE A ROLE MODEL FOR YOUR CHILDREN.
This tragedy serves as a sobering lesson for all of us and a reason to rethink our priorities. Only through the combined efforts of families, the state, and society can we create a safe and prosperous future for our children. Let us ensure that our children remain close to us.
With respect,
Members of the National Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan
