Prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OIC Women's Organization discussed in Astana

On July 23, the Chair of the National Commission on Women and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva, met with the Executive Director of the OIC Women's Organization for Development, Dr. Afnan Al-Shuaibi.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing issues and exchanging experiences in the fields of family and gender policy.

Aida Balayeva emphasized that Kazakhstan, as a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional state, adheres to a policy of peace, tolerance, and non-discrimination.

"The Head of State actively supports and pays great attention to efforts to achieve gender equality, which is one of the priorities of state policy. An important testament to this is that in the 2023 international ranking on the Gender Gap Index, Kazakhstan ranked 62nd out of 146 countries," said Aida Balayeva.

The Chair spoke about the activities of the National Commission on Women and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the work of the Center for Family and Gender Policy Research. More than 500 NGOs dealing with gender policy issues and a national network of women's leadership schools, uniting almost 70 NGOs, play an important role. "Clubs of Women Politicians" and Women's Entrepreneurship Development Centers operate in all regions of the country.

Dr. Afnan Al-Shuaibi particularly highlighted Kazakhstan's achievements in combating domestic violence, noting that Kazakhstan holds a leading position in this area among Central Asian countries.

The parties also discussed prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OIC Women's Organization, including on international platforms.

At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed mutual interest in deepening cooperation and exchanging views on key issues in the implementation of women's rights and empowerment policies.
